3 - Larry
During a trip to Jasper, we stopped at Mount Edith Cavell, it being a favourite spot of Erik's, and having some sentimental value for us both. Along the hike up, we passed a gentleman sitting on a bench, whom I now know as Larry. He had said hello as we passed, and seemed to be contemplating the Glacier across the way, so I stopped to talk to him. He was, he had told me, looking at a trail that ran up along the mountainside leading up to the Angel Glacier. It was a trail that was now closed, but that had only twice been climbed, himself second only to the one other person. He climbed so he could say that he had done it, and he certainly seemed proud to be able to do so. Speaking with Larry was such a lovely stop for breath on the way up, and definitely a nice push to keep climbing.
